Cafe LeFevre

You chain your bike up to a lamppost outside the diner and run in. Startled classmates look up from their greaseburgers as you slam the door open. “Everyone! There are meteorites crashing into the earth! We have to get somewhere safe -- now!”

A shockwave from one of the meteorites shakes the window of the cafe, and the waitress Sherri suddenly springs to action. “Cold storage! It’s a big room lined with metal! That should help protect us!”

Students knock over chromed chairs as you corral them toward the back of the restaurant and into the giant refrigerator. One of the girls, whom you recognize from chemistry class, you think her name is Elisabeth? pushes past you and out onto the street. You try to grab her and keep her in but are unable to focus on her as other students are beginning to panic.

After closing the remaining students into the refrigerator, you huddle with Sherri and a couple others, keeping warm. You try not to notice the giant pile of bacon next to your head as you listen to muffled sounds of impacts and explosions from the outside world.

When the impacts stop you wait about 10 minutes before going back out into the cafe. The large front window has shattered and everyone’s burgers have a gritty condiment of dust blown in through the window. The OPEN sign hangs lopsided, fitfully attempting to flash and keep lit, and napkins litter the floor in a deceptively celebratory manner.

You are pleased that your actions were able to save so many people from injury, but find yourself biting your lip a bit in vexation that you didn’t head out to make a grab for real glory. Oh well, a knight’s life can’t always be about showing off, and you’re still pretty proud of your actions for the day.

The End.
